Safety

Safe by design, not by promise.

Dating app safety is not one feature — it is a set of choices baked into the product. Here are the choices Salted Caramel makes, in plain language.

Every profile is selfie-verified

No one shows up in anyone else’s feed until they pass selfie verification during onboarding. A live selfie is checked against the profile photos. This is a hard gate on account creation, not a badge you can unlock later.

Report or block in one tap

Every profile and every chat header has a report and block option. Reports are reviewed by a human, not just a script. Blocking is immediate and mutual — a blocked user cannot see your profile or find you again.

Your phone number is never shared

We use your phone number for sign-in and account recovery. Other users never see it, even after you match or chat. We do not sell phone numbers, addresses, or contact lists to third parties.

Your exact location is never shared

We use an approximate location (city / region) to show relevant profiles. Precise GPS coordinates are not shared with other users, and you can turn off location entirely in settings.

Men can’t see who ignored them

If a woman does not reply to a toffee, the man is never notified. No ‘seen’ badge. No ‘expired’ message. No way to argue with someone else’s inbox. Silence is a full sentence.

Paid opener as a safety mechanism

Making a ‘hi’ cost a small toffee changes who sends. Bad actors spamming hundreds of women with copy-paste openers hit economic friction on the first message. It is not a silver bullet but it dramatically thins the noise.

Data you can delete

Delete your account from the app and we remove your profile, photos, and messages you authored within 30 days. We keep minimal enforcement records (report history, ban list) longer so bad actors cannot return under a new account. See the privacy policy for full details.

If something happens off the app

If you experience harassment, coercion, or violence — on or off the app — call 112 (national emergency in India) or 1091 (women’s helpline). Report the user to us at the same time. Screenshots help us act quickly.

Reporting to us

The fastest path is the in-app report on the offending user’s profile or chat. For anything outside the app or for repeat abuse, email the team with the username and screenshots. We reply within two business days.
